Unfortunately Named Restaurants

My friend Josh sent me the link to these restaurants today, and I laughed so hard at some of them, I knew I had to post them here.

Check them out!

To start, a local business: a Chinese restaurant in Cambridge, Massachusetts!

I will never order from them because of their name.  Who actually wants Pu Pu Hot Pot?  (Besides, whenever I get greasy Chinese food, it’s usually post-clubs at 3:00 AM in Chinatown.)

Cambridge is full of college students — hello, Harvard and MIT! — and I’m sure that so many of them get a kick out of the restaurant’s name that Pu Pu Hot Pot will always stay in business.

Here are a few others:

My dung.

Vagina Tandoori.

If this is all you eat, it will happen faster than you think.

Crabby Dick’s.

(My dad is named Dick.  My friends love his name.  He’s not crabby very often, though.)

Here are the rest.  I love them.

Enjoy!

(Also: things have changed SO much over the past few months!  You won’t believe just how much spam I’m getting in my comments!)

But, seriously, I’m grateful to you for all the emails you sent me.  I needed a break, and I’m back.  Just wait until you see the horrible sign around the corner from my office…it is so bad, you guys will LOVE it!

  1. It’s good to see a new post! I recently discovered your blog, and I enjoyed the older posts. I was hoping I hadn’t discovered it right after its creator had abandoned it…
Oh, and my favorite is ‘dip your balls in our seaman sauce.’ That’s just so unappetizing!

  2. The last one just cracks me up! “Dip yer balls in our seaman sauce.” The Chinese I can understand, but seriously, can they not see the pun here?!

  3. I loved going to Pu Pu hot Pot five years ago. When I visited last, the place had been remodeled, but the quality of the food had fallen slightly

  4. The Yelp reviews of Pu Pu Hot Pot are terrible — I think it averages a 2.5-star rating — but so many people have defended the restaurant since I posted this!

  5. I love this kind of thing.

    Welcome back!

  6. Allison Friederichs

So glad to see you back! And, omg, these are great. I haven’t laughed that hard in a while. I don’t know which is my favorite; there are too many to choose from!

  7. Crabby Dick’s, despite the name, is a great restaurant w/great seafood – just ate there last summer. They go all out with the double entendres on the menu, and have created a whole brand (w/a gift shop!) around the concept – including other “dick” characters like Harry, Lucy, and Anita. Yep. That’s right, Anita Dick.

  8. You say this like you have never heard of Pu Pu Platter. Do grown ups still think that’s worth snickering about?

  9. As a former MIT student, I used to frequent PuPu Hot Pot. The quality of food is quite poor (Mary Chungs is waaaaay better), but they’re the closest place to campus. Also, they deliver, unlike Mary Chungs, which I’m sure helps keep ‘em in business. It’s not even close to authentic cuisine; however, and it’s usually worth it to walk another block down the street.

  10. Good lord….”Dip yer balls in our seamen sauce.” It doesn’t get better than that.

  11. I used to wish I had been named Richard.
I would love to say, “Hi, my name’s Richard but my friends call me Dick.
Come to think about it, so do my enemies.”
    Badum-chee!
