Punctuation Contest — SEXY CAN I

I enjoyed your corrections to “Everything is super when you don’t you think I look cute in this hat?” so much that I’ve got a new one for you.

Let’s try this sentence, a gem of a lyric from singer and amateur porn star Ray-J’s hit song and McCulley favorite, “Sexy Can I”:

Sexy can I just pardon my manners girl how you shake it got a player like oh

Man, I love that song.

How would you punctuate it?

There seem to be a lot of possibilities…

The winner will get a chance to plug his or her favorite thing on this blog, whether it be the winner’s own blog or anything else!

Let’s see what we’ve got!

All I wanna know is — SEXY CAN I?

Sexy, can I? Just pardon my manner, Girl. How you shake it – got a player-like… oh!

  2. Sexy, can I just pardon my manners? Girl, how you shake it got a player like “Oh!”

  3. “Sexy, can I just – pardon my manners, girl; how you shake it, got a player-like… oh!!”

  4. You guys are so creative! I like it.

  5. Sexy, can I just–pardon my manners, girl–how you shake it got a player like, “Oh!”

  6. Sexy, can I? Just pardon my manners. Girl, how you shake it got a player like, “Oh!”

I imagine there’s a sexually suggestive (or possibly explicit) action that takes place between the first and second sentences.

  7. Sexy! Can I just – Pardon my manners, girl! How you shake it! Got a player like – oh! (At which point the girl, thoroughly offended at being thus objectified, hauled off and slapped him across the face.)

  8. Man, I really hope we hear this song at the clubs. That and Sensual Seduction. 🙂

  9. I have just recently discovered my addiction to grammar. This seems like some sort of coming out party!
I think there are words implied but omitted in this lyric. Here’s my take:

Sexy, can I just… Pardon my manners, girl, [but] how [do] you shake it? Got a player? Like, “Oh!”

I hate the filler word “like”, but I think that’s how it’s used here, in my opinion.

    Love the blog, Kate.

  10. Sexy… Can I just pardon my manners? Girl! How you shake it got a player like – oh!

Is it really okay to pardon your own manners? Isn’t pardoning oneself good manners?

  11. LOVE YOUR SITE…

“Sexy, can I just — pardon my manners. Girl, how you shake it; got a player like — oh!”

  12. Sexy, can I? Just pardon my manners. Girl, how you shake it! [You] got a player like, “oh!”

In this context, “like” translates as “saying.”
